The Fourth Annual EQUIFEST family festival will be held at the Lake Helen Equestrian Center on April 12th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Dog agility demonstrations and Jack Russell Terrier racing will begin at 10:00 AM. The “Mane Event” equestrian showcase kicks off at 12:30 PM, and Jack Russell Terrier racing resumes at 3:00 PM. To learn more about these dogs, visit the website for the Sunshine State JRT Club.
This year’s “Mane Event” features Denny Chapman, Wild West equestrian entertainer, performing his “Surfin' Cowboy” specialty act; the wildly popular golden palomino stallion, Ivory Pal, and his owner/trainer Rafael Valle; Olympic Dressage Bronze Medalist Michael Poulin and his extraordinary daughters, Kate and Gwen, both US Dressage Federation Young Rider gold medalists (Kate was also a member of the 2007 US Gold Medal Pan Am Team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil); and Mary Rivers, who will wow the crowd with her Side Saddle Demonstration.
Returning for encore performances are
the Silver Sands Drill Team, Paso Elegante Drill Team, Fantasy
Arabians, Bruno Gonzales and his Baroque demonstration, Barrel Racing,
Pole Bending, Cowboy Mounted Shooting, and the Comanche Indian
Demonstration. Also returning, for the fourth year now, will be
Clairese Austin and her
black Percheron, Thunder. Clairese and Thunder represent Horsesisters, an ALL
VOLUNTEER 501(c)(3) nonprofit equine assisted therapy and rescue agency
in Mims, Florida. Clairese and Thunder, who is now 14, will be
providing rides in their "surrey with the fringe on top"
for spectators during the day.
The Equifest event is presented in conjunction with the equine art exhibition "Equus IV: Celebrating the Art of the Horse", on display at the Museum of Florida Art Thursday, April 10, through Sunday, May 25, 2008. Opening Reception April 10 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
